I am delighted that after so much deliberation, NICE has decided to support the use of bilateral implants in children. We know that children with one implant experience problems in noisy situations such as school - having two implants will ensure that they have the best possible educational support where it is vital, and that they are having equity with others in Europe where bilateral implantation is routinely available. We now need to provide the services to ensure that they have the best possible long-term support.
